UPDATE TO THE ABOVE POST
Bathroom Takeaway has donated a double decker bus to become the UK’s first “Health & Wellbeing Bus” which will be up and running in London by August this year.
The bus which was previously used as a VIP bus for events across the country and is already kitted out with fridges and sofas is now in the hands of a fantastic homeless charity Buses 4 Homeless.
Buses 4 Homeless aim to tackle the fact that there are over 3100 people sleeping rough in London every night. They convert buses to provide space for eating, sleeping, wellbeing and learning to re-engage homeless people back into the community.
The Bathroom Takeaway bus will be fitted with showers and toilets so that homeless people across the capital can have warm showers and the use of clean toilets to give them a helping hand to get back on their feet. The charity has ambitious plans to turn the bus into a health and wellbeing bus and are even planning to run free yoga, meditation and mindfulness classes on the top deck.
Dan Atkins, Founder of Buses 4 Homeless said: “We can’t thank Bathroom Takeaway enough for giving us their double decker bus completely free of charge as well as donating all of the bathroom materials – we’re absolutely overwhelmed and the whole team have goosebumps at their generosity. So far we have 4 buses in London and to add this one to our fleet is a dream come true. Having a wash in the morning is something we all take for granted and to be able to offer this out as a free resource is absolutely wonderful.”
The bus was purchased by Bathroom Takeaway for £16,000 just three years ago and will be located at in London once the project finds a fixed location. Buses 4 Homeless anticipate that hundreds of people will benefit for this new addition to their existing fleet.
Beatriz Pardo, Head of Marketing said: “We’re delighted to donate our bus to such a fantastic charity and it’s great to see it going to such a worthy home. The bus has been at The Manchester Duck Race for two years and welcomed Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd on board as well as taking centre stage The Birmingham Family Fun Event which attracted Cbeebies Sid Sloane.
According to Buses 4 Homeless there are 3100 people sleeping rough in London every night. More than 440 people died on the streets in the UK last year. Buses 4 Homeless believe that they are the solution and their mission is to provide 14,600 nights sleep a year in the warmth and comfort of double decker buses.
